Classified Documents Recovered on MP3 Player

A New Zealand citizen uncovers US troop information on second hand digital MP3 player, according to a local TV news report from New Zealand

The guy at in the middle of it Chris Ogle says he found the US army information files when he went to download MP3s from his computer to his MP3 player one morning.

The New Zealander told reporters that he recovered the confidential data regarding US military personnel on an Mp3 / mp4 player he bought from a second hand shop in Oklahoma, USA.

Chris Ogle, 29, said: “The more I look at it, the more I see and the less I think I should be looking.”

These classified information files include the names and telephone numbers of members of the US armed forces, according to news reports by a local New Zealand TV channel.

Still, the Pentagon can relax a bit, as according to a leading expert, these confidential records in question, are unlikely to present a security risk, as they are dated from 2005, consequently are already 5 years out of date.

Still there could be some embarrassment in the top brass, as various files found included the warning that the release of this information is “prohibited by federal law”.

Along with the personal details of the US soldiers, including a list of their social security numbers, the digital files also recorded pregnant female troops, who will by now be female troop mothers, and apparent briefings of missions in Afghanistan.

A spokes person from the Center for Strategic Studies in New Zealand, said of course that while these records should not be circulating in the public domain. He thought it did not appear that it would have a negative affect on national security in the USA.

“This is just slack administrative procedures which are indeed a cause of embarrassment,” he said.

Mean wile Mr Ogle, from Whangarei, said he would hand over the data files to the US government if they asked.

Currently there is no statement from the US Embassy in New Zealand.

This is not the first time that such laps in security surrounding classified US armed forces digital information stored on portal devices.

There was a very similar tale in Afghanistan in 2006 It was reported that US investigators found stolen flash USB drives that held confidential US military information from local shops close to the US base there.

EU To Turn Down The Ipod?

The European Union commission is seeking a set limit for the maximum volume on all MP3 & MP4 players sold within the EU. This will apply to the popular iPod

The EU proposals follow after the latest report published in 2009 that highlighted that up to 10 million citizens in the EU are in danger of permanent hearing loss as a result of listening to loud music for long periods of time

Experts at the EU Commission would like the default maximum volume to be at 85 decibels. However users could override this set limit and turn the volume to a maximum limit of 100 decibels.

At the beginning of this year, an eight week consultation of all EU standardization committees started on these proposals to limit volume. It’s expected that the final agreement would be reached within 3 months

Worrying results were brought to light at testing facilities where some MP3 players were examined by researchers. A number of of the players had a maximum volume level of 120 decibels, that is equal to a plane taking off. This is the issue that the EU is hoping to deal with, as at the moment no set safety default volume level applies.

Although personal media player manufacturers have to by law, publish information about risks in the instruction manuals. For all practical purposes though, nobody reads these, and it doesn’t actually stop the user from increasing the volume to maximum. What’s more, research has shown that hearing loss amongst younger people is increasing as a result of the use of listing to loud music on earphones.

MP3 players are perceived as being more dangerous than CD players or the ‘Walkman’ because they can store many hours of music and have a long battery life, which means that users can listen to them continuously for long periods without a break. Often while driving when the volume is very height to drown out outside noise. Over time the resulting injury to hearing can be similar that seen in previous years caused by industrial noise.

Cheaper and More Fun Alternative to Ebay for Buying Electronics

Burbank, California – Muulu (muulu.com) is growing in popularity as a cheaper alternative to eBay. Why? Because the average winning bid for new electronics items, like iPhones, game systems, and iPods, is substantially lower on Muulu than on Ebay. People pay for bids. These payments buy down the possible winning price of the item being auctioned until it is won for well below wholesale price. Other electronic items include HDTVs, laptops, desktop computers, and GPS systems.

The first thing that strikes you about Muulu is the insane deals. People can win a new Samsung 46-Inch HDTV for $350, a new Sony PlayStation 3 Slim Console for $150, or a new Apple iPod Touch for $90. Some bidders virtually camp out on Muulu all day long trying to figure out a system for consistently winning ridiculously good deals using as few bids as possible.

Muulu is a completely different mindset from Ebay. Some people view Muulu as a fun way to spend their spare time, a game, a challenge, a chance to win a plasma HDTV for very little money. But, it definitely demands more thinking and strategy than a conventional auction.

If you are using Muulu for the first time, I recommend that you start with the cheaper auctions. These auctions use up fewer bids and will give you a chance to get used to Muulu. Once you have gotten familiar with Muulu auctions, move on to the higher-priced auctions.

Here’s a secret that the majority of Muulu bidders don’t know, avoid bidding in the first auctions that appear on the front page, because they get the bulk of the traffic. Choose a different auction category instead. The most important strategy on Muulu is to bid in the auctions with the fewest number of bidders, because there will be fewer bidders to bid up the price of the item. Lastly, wait until there are many auctions for whatever you want, because the bids are spread over multiples of the same item.

Kevin Kaufman is an Internet Business Analyst who writes Internet business reviews for various web blogs. Thinking of buying something on Ebay? Make sure you check out Muulu’s newest Ebay alternative. Or, you can register for a Muulu bidding account.
